Matroska Audio (MKA) is an audio-only container format derived from the Matroska Multimedia Container. It is commonly used for storing high-quality audio data and supports various audio codecs such as MP3, AAC, and Vorbis. MKA also supports complex features like chapters, tags, attachments, and embedded subtitles within the container. Thanks to its shared infrastructure with Matroska Video (MKV), MKA benefits from open-source development and broad compatibility. It is favored in scenarios where advanced features and flexibility are required for audio-only files.
History
Matroska Audio (MKA) was introduced shortly after the launch of the Matroska project in December 2002. The format was developed by the Matroska team to provide a flexible, open-source container specifically for audio content while retaining the advanced features of the Matroska Video (MKV) format. Over the years, it has been adopted by audiophiles and multimedia enthusiasts for its robustness and versatility in managing high-quality audio files and integrating complex features.
