Subtitles for All
SubZap exists to make subtitles accessible to everyone, because we believe that language shouldn't be a barrier to enjoying your favorite movies and TV shows. No one should be held back by complex subtitle files and formats.
Our belief is that privacy and security are fundamental, especially when dealing with sensitive content, such as what you watch, and how.
The platform
SubZap is built on three core principles:
Simplicity
Getting the subtitles you need should be as easy as possible. We work hard to make sure our user experience is seamless and that our processing times are incredibly quick.Responsibility
SubZap uses AI responsibly, and never uses your personal data for training AI models. Its usage is isolated from other processing, and is applied only where it improves results, such as for translation.Safety
All of our main processing pipelines are written in pure Rust and WebAssembly, adhering to the latest web standards to ensure file and data transfer safety.
A personal note
This website started as a small personal project. I was looking to automatically translate subtitles for my girlfriend while she was still learning English - so that we could watch TV shows together that were difficult to find subtitles for. I quickly found out that it was not a simple task.
I had to manually extract subtitles from video files, convert image-based subtitles to text, and then manually translate them line-by-line since no existing translation service properly understood subtitle formats. This was an incredibly time-consuming process. It took almost as much time to prepare a TV show as it did to watch one.
So I decided to build my own tools - and now I'm sharing them all with you. I sincerely hope you will benefit from them as much as I have.
